Link Magazine 1972-1991

‘Link’ was a monthly community magazine, sponsored by the local churches in South Woodham Ferrers, which ran from October 1972 to March 1991. The magazine (apart from its printing) depended entirely on volunteers for its production and distribution and the back issues now provide a valuable local history resource and an interesting insight into community life during a significant 20 year period in the life of South Woodham Ferrers when the ‘new town’ was being developed. The magazine won first prize in an Essex-wide community magazine competition in 1985.

The South Woodham Ferrers Local History Society has access to a complete set of the magazines and has produced an index to the articles they contain. In due course it is intended that the magazines will be scanned and made available on this website but in the meantime the index of articles is available. Whilst part of the Link’s local history interest lies in the overall character of the magazine –its editorial, its advertisements and its illustration - if there is an article listed that you wish to see please email johnfranklandswf@btinternet.com details of its title, page number and issue date (no more than 4 pages please) and a scan will be sent to you. At this stage this service is provided free of charge by the Local History Society.
