The History of the Petre Family by Lord Petre

Wednesday 05 September 2018
20:00 to 22:00

At its September meeting, the South Woodham Ferrers Local History Society reaches a significant milestone when it celebrates the 40th anniversary of the formation of the society. As its special guest speaker for this ruby anniversary meeting, the society is very pleased to be welcoming Lord Petre of Ingatestone Hall.

Lord Petre will be giving an illustrated talk about the history of his family and in particular the period covered by the 7th, 8th and 9th Lords Petre in the 18th century when the fortunes of this ancient Essex family probably reached their peak. On the occasion of his last visit to the Society, Lord Petre talked about his role as the Lord Lieutenant of Essex and we can safely assume that he will not have lost any of the entertaining and engaging manner, that he demonstrated then, when he covers this sometimes colourful period in his family's life....

The talk will be followed (after a break for the 40th anniversary celebratory refreshments) by the AGM of the local history society. Visitors are welcome (admissions £3). Anyone wishing to attend the talk only will have the opportunity to leave at the break; alternatively new members will be welcomed to join the Society at the meeting on payment of the new £10 membership subscription and stay for the Society's AGM.
