Southend – 100 Years on Film

Wednesday 06 May 2015
20:00 to 22:00

An illustrative talk by Chris Taylor from South Essex Film Makers

At the final indoor meeting of its 2014/1015 season, the Local History Society is delighted to be welcoming Chris Taylor from South Essex Film Makers who will share moving images from the town’s history in a new presentation entitled ‘Southend – 100 Years on Film’.

Over many years Chris has gathered a collection of archive films of the town going back to nitrate film of the early 1900s. It is a collection that has grown over time and includes many insights into life in the town and how it was promoted as a resort; this will include coverage of the mixed fortunes of the seaside town’s famous pier as well as some rarely seen footage of the town. The showing will be something of a ‘dry run’ for a presentation being given to the Southend Film Festival later in May and is certain to provide Local History Society members and visitors with a truly fascinating insight into not only the history of the town but also the art of the film-maker.

Don’t miss out! – this promises to be a great end to the Society’s 2014/15 programme of evening presentations. Visitors are very welcome to attend and there is no need to book in advance (admission £3).
