Illustrated talk: South Woodham's 'Plotlands'

Wednesday 03 September 2014
19:30 to 22:00

An illustrated talk by John Frankland, chairman of the Local History Society, that looks at the 'plotland' history of South Woodham Ferrers.  'Plotland' development - the subdivision of farming land into building plots and their sale, often cheaply at auction to Londoners arriving on special excursion trains - began in South Woodham Ferrers in 1895.  The two main farms, Champions and Eyotts, provide contrasting case studies of the process that drastically changed the face of the area. The talk will be followed by the Local History Society's AGM and an opportunity to join the Society.
